A switch mode power supply drives the LED cluster at a constant brightness, providing a high quality, reliable beam in either economy or maximum brightness settings.

When fully charged, this Sherpa provides up to 3 hours 20 minutes of ultra bright light, or 20 hours of normal light. Internal mechanical components are specified to industrial standards for repeated use and long life.

Battery note: This Freeplay device utilizes environmentally-friendly NiMH battery pacs, NOT the more hazardous lithium or NiCad cells found in other devices. Once fully charged and discharged several times, you may expect these battery pacs to provide years of reliable service. Because these battery pacs are comprised of standard NiMH batteries, they will self discharge at a rate of about 25% during first 24 hours (following full charge) plus about 25% per month thereafter.

More about the patented cranking mechanism

• Folding handle is made from tough glass reinforced nylon and is designed, along with the rubberized grips of the radio, for comfort and ease of use.

• The transmission gear (gear train) is constructed to high manufacturing tolerances from glass reinforced nylon and acetyl, an engineering amalgam that dramatically increases the life of the gear train.
   

Extra longevity

• The crank mechanism is tested to 500,000 input cycles.
• The LEDs are rated up to 100,000 hours or 11 years of continuous use (24 hours a day).
• Accelerated lifetime tests on the batteries in the Freeplay self-charge system have reflected no significant capacity loss after 10,000 crank charge cycles.
• Under self-charge conditions the batteries receive a conditioning charge that increases battery life.
