Selecting battery-powered devices that can use high efficiency rechargeable batteries
Addiction to bad batteries is a HUGE problem for American consumers and our environment. Each year, many consumers quietly waste thousands of dollars on bad batteries and battery-powered devices that may involve bad battery choices.
1. REPLACE SINGLE-USE BATTERIES WITH TOP QUALITY RECHARGEABLES - Compare specs. It pays to be picky.
CHOOSING AAA, AA, C, D, 9V rechargeables for your old and new devices:
For the vast majority of devices, your best choice is a high quality NiMH rechargeable battery. TheLow Self Discharge (LSD) variety has more usable capacity and is better in every way than the older non-LSD type.
COMPARING SPECS: Unfortunately, many battery companies don't share the info that you may really need. Our experience is that when specs are not widely available, the specs are not that good. Low Internal Resistance = High Efficiency. The internal resistance of an AccuEvolution is very low - about 50% of other Low Self Discharge NiMHs. BATTERIES & BRANDS - We have yet to find a rechargeable at any price that out-performs AccuEvolution.In real world circumstances over several years, our customers have found them to provide superior performance and versatility - for cameras, fast charging, high drain devices, wireless, precision and digital devices, normal and severe weather use. Just one may replace over 1000 single-use batteries and provide a very substantial savings for each ordinary battery replaced. 2. ALWAYS CHOOSE YOUR BATTERY POWERED DEVICE CAREFULLY - Is it powered by a battery pac or individual batteries? Devices powered by battery pacs: Many devices are powered by internal, non-removable battery pacs comprised of a wrapped and soldered bundle of low-end rechargeable batteries. The best of these pacs are comprised of NiMH batteries - but usually the standard variety rather than the low self discharge type; the standard variety will lose charge while idle, which necessitates constant recharging (puts extra wear on the battery and uses extra energy). The worst battery pacs are comprised of NiCads (low capacity/high toxicity) andLiONs (inefficient/subject to overheating). If removable (most are not), replacement pacs tend to be low on quality and high on price.
Powered by individual batteries: There are real advantages to choosing devices that operate on removable/rechargeable AAA, AAA, C, D or 9v batteries. Although 'house' batteries may be included with the device, upgrading to top quality, high efficiency/low self discharge NiMH batteries, such as AccuEvolution is a very smart move. Such batteries will deliver maximum useable capacity for each charge cycle, waste little energy on heat, and stay charged for long periods of time while idle.
